Silk Museum | Hangzhou, China
The Chinese National Silk Museum, located in the national scenic and historic conservation area of Hangzhou City, first opened its doors to the public in 1992. The site and building cover an area of 50,000 square meters. The 2014 plan was to renovate and upgrade the existing galleries and add a series of new buildings, including a fashion museum, a research center, a conservation center, and a storage area. The planning and landscape of the entire site were to be redesigned accordingly.
Landworks Studio Inc. designed a park composed of a series of small ecosystems unique to the region. Circulation throughout the site guides visitors through a sequence of gardens, water collection areas, and public spaces, easing transitions between inside and out.
