Hilltop Residence | Weston, MA
The Weston Residence unites meticulous stone craftsmanship with carefully selected plantings to create outdoor family spaces for every occasion. Undulating bands of stone and vegetation form terraces for cooking, gathering, swimming, playing, resting, and exploring. The radius-cut stone hardscape instills a feeling of fluidity and provides comfortable use and circulation through the property. In particular, benches, countertops, recessed lighting and space for gathering in the cooking and pool terraces were designed around the family’s needs. A large outcropping of massive stone slabs at the head of the pool serves as a focal point and a transition from the finely honed hardscape to the surrounding lawns and gardens. The planting plan balances open lawn, canopy trees selected for fall foliage and bark color, and several garden types suited for the site’s many microclimates. Crevices in the sun-exposed outcropping are planted with fragrant drought-tolerant species. Dozens of varieties shade-tolerant perennials in the heavily shaded drive court bloom continuously from early spring to the fall. The distant edge of the property transitions from open lawn to a wooded wetland using a stand of Tupelo and native ground cover.
